And the progress just keeps rollin along!

Posted in The Webmistress at 11:13 am by webmistress

Whew, it’s been a busy few weeks and months!

Let me attempt to try and summarize all that has happened since my last post:

  • After a lot of work on behalf of the P&D Committee and the Board, Lillith Grove was incorporated as a LLC in early April of 2006!  yeah!!!  So, we are now:  Lillith Grove Women’s Center, LLC!!!
  • After receiving confirmation that we filed for incorporation with the Secretary of State (Delaware), we applied for and received our tax id #.
  • Soon after filing for incorporation, we also applied for our Business License!  yes, we are an OFFICIALLY recognized business in the state of Delaware!
  • The initial partnership met and executed the LLC Operating Agreement, truly making Lillith Grove a reality!
  • We have opened up our business banking account, allowing our members to pay for dues ONLINE, as well as offering an easy way for our prospective members to pay for initial dues, or other supporters to make monetary donations to Lillith Grove and our programming goals.  It is also hopeful that this makes our Treasurer’s job easier!

What else??

We were in need of a volunteer to step up and take the vacant secretary’s position and it was soon filled by Paula - a woman with a huge heart and lots of energy for LG!!  We’re so glad to have her on board!

Also, we’ve been conducting a kitty rescue of a suspected colony in and around LG.  This has been spearheaded by our Activities Chair, Janelle - a true kitty lover and all-around phoenominal woman!  So far, our search has yielded one female adult and one male adult cat and 3 babies about 4 weeks old.  All of them CUTE CUTE CUTE!

The Facilities Committee continues to amaze me on their hard work and dedication to seeing that LG shines.  From moving furniture and years of stuff, to knocking down walls and rebuilding new ones - this group of volunteers is truly amazing!!!  Because this Committee has the most ongoing responsibilities, we are always looking for extra sets of hands - please send a note to board@lillithgrove.com if you can help!

The Events Committee has A LOT of fabulous events and activities planned, remember to always check out our events calendar: http://www.lillithgrove.com/events.html and visit it often as events are added all the time!

I still remain hopeful that other board members will chime in - I’d love for them to take advantage of this opportunity to document where we’re going… together.

Til next time,

Val

Progress…

Posted in The Webmistress at 12:10 am by webmistress

Okay, so we’ve had six (6) new member applications since I last posted to the Blog.  Activities this week included posting messages on the Philly and Delaware CRAIG’s lists that we are looking for a few items on our WISH LIST.  Today, Deb C was to go up to Philly and pick up some folding chairs from one person wishing to donate.  There is one more person donating a TV, VCR/DVD combo and a folding table - still have to find someone to pick those items up, too - as they are up in Philly.  The generosity of our world still amazes me sometimes.  I posted messages to R’Grlz, LG and LCDV to see if someone is able to pick up the other items.  Thought I found us a nice (and reasonably priced) pool table, but sadly - the seller responded to Lori that it had already been SOLD. :(

I sent a note to the Grlz telling them about this blog.  I’m really hoping that they will use it, too.  I’d love to know how they are doing, what they are thinking, etc.  So, hopefully you will begin to see posts from them as well.

Well, it’s midnight and I have 2 more chapters to read for school before I can go to sleep.  Tomorrow I try to work on L’s website design.  So much to read… so much to do.  :)

G’nite.

In the beginning…

Posted in The Webmistress at 5:48 am by webmistress

As is posted on our website, the Lillith Grove Women’s Center was born of the long-standing dream of Lynn Sheridan, the owner of the property that is fast becoming “The Grove”.

I’ve known Lynn for over 4 years and met her at RainbowGrlz function, held at the same property.  If I remember correctly, the first visit was for ‘game night’, where about 30 of us got together for a potluck and various board and card games.  It was the beginning of many such gatherings, held at various R’Grlz houses - mine included.

Despite recent tragedies, Lynn’s dream perservered and she sent an open letter to “our community” asking for help to get this started.

I joined a bit late in the process, about a month and half after things got kicked off.  Not that I didn’t WANT to be there from the beginning but with work and school so hectic, I just didn’t think I had the time.  Then Lynn contacted me to do the website for Lillith Grove and a few board meetings later (and other conflicting schedules) and I am now the newly-elected Vice President, Member Committee Chair, webmaster and a member of the P&D (Planning & Development) Committee.

There are days when this is all too much, sure.  But, when I am in a quiet space and am able to reflect, I am proud of the work I am doing and it feels GOOD to be part of something with soooo much potential.  Lastly, I have been able to connect with some dynamic women at Lillith Grove, whose committment and talents continue to overwhelm me.  I hope that readers of this Blog will get the opportunity to hear from these women, the other members of the Board and various committees, as I plan to open this Blog up to them to record their own experiences, thoughts and hopes for Lillith Grove Women’s Center.

So, we’ve been at this since October of 2005, about 5 months.  We’re at about 30 active members and have the following projects underway:

  1. We’ve elected officers:  Lori (President), Valerie (V. President), Verna (Secretary), Alyssa (Treasurer) and Committee Chairs:  Lori (P&D), Valerie (Membership), Janelle (Activities) and Rebecca (Facilities)
  2. We’ve got our bylaws and strategic plan in DRAFT form!
  3. We’re ready to incorporate and have selected a firm to handle the process, we’re just waiting to hear back about whether or we should go for the C-Corp or LLC.  Hope to have that question answered in the next week or so.
  4. We’ve relocated Lynn’s office from the basement into the upstairs office area and are prepping to begin setting up the basement as the central recreation area.

We’ve got an active events calendar underway and things are looking GOOD!
